Andra Alyse

My name is Andra Alyse and I am a dedicated ICU nurse who loves to empower nursing students and fellow colleagues to reach their fullest potential during school and in the healthcare setting. While in school, I created multiple resources that helped me graduate with honors from my BSN program, and I strive to help other students and nursing professionals succeed in all things nursing! With my thorough study materials, it made studying for the NCLEX much less stressful and I was able to pass in one attempt with the bare minimum of 75 questions (back when that was the minimum)! I want to see the nursing profession continue to expand and provide excellent, competent care. Throughout my first 12 months in the ICU, I pushed myself hard and dedicated many hours toward preparing to take the CCRN exam. In July 2020, I was able to well exceed the minimum required score for certification which allowed me to become board certified as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) at a mere 13 months post graduation. After working for a couple of years, my goal is to tackle more cardiac cases and obtain my cardiac medicine and surgery certifications. After that my sights are set on pursuing nurse anesthesia school! I love caring for my patients, improving the healthcare setting, and enhancing their overall experience. I have always enjoyed helping fellow nursing students and professionals. My hope is to continue providing resources to current and future nursing students in order to better the profession and create more competent graduate nurses!

Nearly everything about nursing school is hard, but there are some things that stand out as more difficult than the others. For example, it could be the fast pace of materials presented, juggling the different sections of lecture/clinical/lab, NCLEX-styled nursing exams, memorizing textbooks worth of facts, etc. I could go on and on listing different aspects of nursing school that are hard for students. For me personally, the hardest thing about nursing school was managing the overwhelming amount of information and content expected of us to learn from the multiple classes each semester. In no other pre-requisites during college had I ever had to take multiple sections of each class (lecture, lab, and clinicals), the material seemingly different in each section yet complementing and compounding upon each other. If you missed a major concept early on, it could have...and likely would have lasting effects well into the semester, other sections, and possibly later semesters as well. To me, it felt as if the weight of my entire nursing career rested on whether or not I could grasp the material and build upon it effectively.
A new semester of nursing school is about to begin for many of you, if it hasn’t already! That can bring a whole new can of worms, anxieties, and feelings of being overwhelmed. It doesn’t have to be that way! If you have a concern or something that’s makes you anxious, whether that’s tests, clinicals, lab, etc., leave a comment below and I’ll likely have an article with advice about that topic. And if I don’t, I can add it to the list! If you leave a comment, I’ll respond with an article title and send you a direct link so you can calm one of those concerns early on in the semester! Let’s crush this semester together! 💪🏼
